m2 Wines History

Since 2004, m2 Wines has been crafting award-winning wines in California, specializing in Zinfandels, Rhone-style wines, and bold blends. Founder Layne Montgomery started by making wine in borrowed winery space before moving to a small warehouse in Lodi in 2006. Despite humble beginnings, m2 Wines quickly gained recognition, earning top awards and global attention.

Over the next decade, Layne joined forces with a passionate group of wine enthusiasts to expand m2 Wines into his dream winery. As m2 Wines' popularity soared, the limitations of the original cramped location became painfully clear. They had outgrown the space, using every inch, including the kitchen sink! Determined to take m2 Wines to the next level, Layne set his sights on acquiring his own vineyard with exceptional soil.

In 2013, we broke ground on a stunning new 15-acre location in Lodi, designed as an indoor/outdoor tasting room nestled within the vineyard. The building, made of corten steel and standing 20 feet tall, is hailed as an architectural masterpiece visible from the nearby railroad tracks. The design allows grapes to begin their winemaking journey at the back and slowly progress to the front tasting room. Built for energy efficiency, the facility features solar panels on the roof and massive 20-foot doors that open up during the summer.
